How to create an e-mail address

E-mail accounts have become as common as phone numbers in recent years and setting them up has become a simple two-minute process on most of the major provider´s sites. ISP (Internet Service Provider) accounts can be slightly more difficult to set up, but are still very simple. Below is a brief walk-through for setting up both types.

E-mail with independent providers

Sites such as Yahoo and Gmail.com provide quick and easy email free, and most of them will provide plenty of mail storage space without upgrading to a premium account.
Signing up simply requires you to go to their homepages and in the case of Gmail, clicking on the 'Create an account' button. For Yahoo, it is necessary to click the 'Mail tab', then the 'Create an account' button. In both cases, you will be taken to a personal information page that needs to be filled out. This includes basic information such as your name and address. It is also where you will pick an actual e-mail address, such as newuser@yahoo.com and set up your password and security questions. The security questions will be used in the event that you forget your password to verify your identity and allow you to access to your account. So, set them up in such a way that you will remember the answers, but they will not be easily guessable for hackers. Finally, as long as the e-mail address that you have chosen is not already in use, you will be asked to copy a capcha (small group of letters and numbers) to prove you are a human being, not a computer remotely setting up addresses. If, for some reason, you have trouble reading the capcha, you can request for another one or have it read to you in audio form. As soon as you are finished, you will receive a welcome email with your account information and some basic information on the provider's features.

ISP email

Setting up an email account with your internet service provider is only slightly more difficult that the sites above.
This is because it is sometimes necessary to fill out a few extra information fields such as your ISPs mail type and outgoing mail server.
If that is the case, the information will be provided in your ISP's welcome packet or can be easily obtained from them.
While the mail service for all email providers is basically the same, one major drawback of ISP provided email that should be noted is that if you change providers for any reason, you will lose the account.
