The Microsoft File Transfer Manager is a desktop client side application which is used to provide secure and guaranteed delivery when you download or upload large files over the Internet. It also speeds up the download process. When you download and install the Microsoft File Transfer Manager on your computer, you can easily learn how to use it in a few short steps.

Download and install the Microsoft File Transfer Manager

- Navigate to the Microsoft File Transfer Manager download website (Microsoft.com)
- Click the "Click here to download MSI" link and save the file to your desktop.
- Double-click on the installation file on your desktop and follow the onscreen instructions to install the program on your computer.
- Select the option to downloading using FTM. When it is finished, Microsoft File Transfer Manager is installed on your computer. There should be an icon for the program on your desktop, or you can open it through the Start menu.

How to use the Microsoft File Transfer Manager?

- When you download a file after installing this program, choose the Download selected file(s) using the FTM option to use Microsoft File Transfer Manager.
- A dialog box opens asking you what program you want to use to open the file.
- Select Microsoft File Transfer Manager and click "OK".
- The Confirm Transfer Request dialog box opens.
- Click the "Browse" button and navigate to the place where you want to download the file, and then click "Transfer". You will notice a progress bar on the screen notifying you of the progress of the download. The Microsoft File Transfer Manager program has a suspend/resume capability, which allows you to resume interrupted transfers, and pause and resume a file transfer which has been stopped. It also allows you to queue multiple file transfers and prioritise them, and up to four transfer packages can be transferred concurrently. It has built-in error checking and recovery from corruptions. Microsoft File Transfer Manager works by splitting a large file into multiple segments. It then simultaneously downloads as many segments as possible, within the constraints of the available network bandwidth, the speed limits you have set, and the server side controls which could exist during peak demands. This helps speed up the download process.
