The benefits
The Russian space program Vibration exercise equipment was actually produced for the Russian space program. Zero gravity means that there is no resistance to work the muscles. Coupled with prolonged periods of time in space, this could lead to muscle deterioration and even a loss in bone density. To combat this, the Russians came up with the vibration exercise. The process The process is quite simple. The participant climbs onto a platform and can stand, sit, lay down or even focus the platform on certain areas of the body. The platform creates the vibration which is sent through the body and it causes the muscles to contract in response. This process allows tendons to stretch and there is an increase in blood flow, which in turn improves oxygenation. Due to the machine exploiting the muscles' natural reflexes, they are strengthened and toned without effort from the participant. As these vibrations are sent through the entire body, all muscle groups are affected ultimately, helping increased range of motion, coordination, bone density and posture. It has even been noted to decrease cortisol, which is the body's stress hormone. The experience is relaxing, which lowers stress and alleviates tension-related pain. The machines are designed to be used by people of any age or size, from seasoned athletes to beginner exercisers. Efficiency of the machine The machine's capabilities were proven in the space program itself. The Russian space team, who trained using these machines, were able to spend a record of 420 days in space. In comparison, the Americans who trained with traditional workout equipment, could only stay 120 days, because their bones and muscles started to deteriorate.
Availability
Currently, a lot of fitness studios have at least one of these exercise machines. If a machine for home fitness is needed, there are fitness stores and online stores that offer vibration plates and equipment varying in price. There are some instances where vibration technology should not be considered an option. These include: - Pregnancy, - Advanced heart disease, - A pacemaker, - Recent surgery, - Hip or knee implants, - Severe diabetes, - Epilepsy, - Severe migraines, - Recently placed pins, or plates. Therefore, consulting a GP before partaking in any new exercise regime is advised.
