What to do on holidays to Paris

A short break in Paris is the perfect way to enjoy a romantic time with your sweetheart. Alternatively, you could head out to Eurodisney for breaks for the whole family, no matter what age. The choice is yours and with Paris being such a magical city, there is much to see and do that you may stay for longer than you planned.

Major sights in Paris

Once you have decided where to stay, either with hotel packages or hotel bookings directly through the Internet, then the next thing to do is to decide what to see. The Eiffel Tower This iconic symbol of all the things that the French built for the 1889 World Fair, with construction beginning two years previously. It is made of wrought iron and is 324 metres tall. Around six and a half million people, visit the tower every year, taking the lifts up to one of the three visitor levels to enjoy the glorious views. There are restaurants on the first and second levels. The Louvre Museum Possibly, the world's most famous art gallery is housed in the glorious palace of King Louis XIV. There are many wonderful masterpieces and the museum is so vast that you cannot hope to see it all. A suggestion would be to take a guided tour, such as the Introductory Tour, which takes in works, such as the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo or the wedding Feast at Cana. Tours in English take place every day at 11am and 2pm, except on Tuesdays and public holidays. Notre Dame Cathedral Situated on Ile de la Cité, the cathedral is one of the first great European Gothic cathedrals. It was one of the first buildings to use 'flying buttresses' to help support the weight of the walls. Building started in 1163 and completed in 1345. The cathedral is open every day from 7am. Visitors are expected to dress and behave respectfully. The bell tower, famous from films such as 'The Hunchback of Notre Dame' can be visited, but you have to be prepared to walk up 140 very steep steps.

Modern sights in Paris

Centre Pompidou This ultra modern building was designed in 1977 by architects Renzo Piano and Richard Rodgers, with the idea of making art and culture available to everyone. It houses The French National Museum of Modern Art, with works spanning the whole of the 20th and into the 21st century. Disneyland Paris With all the magic you would expect from Disney, the park is divided into five lands and is perfect for families. There are many deals on hotels in Disneyland at the moment. Last word Whether you like historical or modern, Paris is perfect for everyone.
