A little Saturn history
The Saturn car company was a subsidiary of General Motors established in 1985. The intention of the brand was to compete directly with the Japanese import market and this is what drove the design of its vehicles.
Features
The Saturn Vue SUV first saw the light of day in 2002. It was an instant hit and soon became the most popular of the Saturn vehicles. First generation cars were edgy designs with sharp creases and a tough stance. Engines ranged from 2.2 litre four cylinder units up to V6 3.5s. The Green Line version even came with a hybrid drive system with stop-start technology and a 170bhp 2.4 litre engine.
Gen 2 models arrived in 2008 and had softer body lines and larger engines across the range. Sales ceased in 2010 when GM failed to find a buyer for the firm.
The Vue
All Saturn motors are well equipped, but the Vue is especially so. In the UK, it would be seen as an executive car in competition with the likes of BMW's X5 and Audi's Q7. Air-con, cruise control and leather trim were all standardised at some point.
Are they available in the UK?
Importing stock
Fortunately, although you are no longer able to buy these impressive cars new, there is still plenty of used stock within the American GM franchise network. Importing one of your own into the UK is probably your best option as you should be able to source one to the specification that you desire. This can be
time-consuming and weighed down with red tape, however, so you might prefer to approach a specialist importer to do the job for you. Firms like Newport Imports in Kent will find the vehicle and arrange all the shipping, paperwork and tax forms for you.
Classified ads and Autoscout24
A few of them have made it to these shores as private imports and turn up for sale in the classified ads in publications like Classic American magazine and American Car World. If these don't come up as trumps, then check out the online site Autoscout24. This carries car ads from the European continent and, as the Saturn range was left-hand drive, more were imported to mainland Europe.
