Why psychics can never be for real

A psychic is an individual who can supposedly sense things that are not accessible through ordinary sensory perceptions. There are many people who claim to be psychics, but is psychic ability supported by science? Read this article to find out why psychics can never be for real.

Why do we believe in psychics?

With all the challenges and the problems that people face in their everyday lives, it’s very easy to fall victims to a psychic. The so-called psychics claim that they are able to see or predict future events and it’s tempting to try and get future readings or love readings to find out what the future holds for you. Unfortunately, getting a physic reading won’t solve any of your problems. It will simply empty your pocket. The reason why psychics even exist is that people want to believe that such powers are real and that a tarot reading or other types of online readings will magically change their lives.

How psychics deceive people

Cold reading There are two kinds of psychics: the ones who deceive others on purpose and the ones who are self-deceived into thinking that they have special powers. Those in the first category are very good at picking up clues about you. They usually lure you in by offering a free reading to “prove” their abilities and turn you into a client. They may start the conversation with general statements to see your reaction to these statements and judge your character. They also know how to read your body language. This method is called cold reading. Cold reading allows a person to use perception and observation to find out information about another person. The information seems to come out of thin air, and leads others to believe that the “psychic” has special abilities. During cold reading, the psychic asks some vague questions, analyses the answers and makes educated guesses that turn out to be very close to the truth. The psychic appears to know everything about your life, but in reality, most of the information comes from you.

Scientific proof against psychic abilities

A study conducted in 2008 by Kosslyn and Multon, tested several psychic abilities like remote viewing, clairvoyance and precognition. According to the study, there were no distinguishable neural responses between looking at an image psychically sent by a sender to a receiver and looking at a random image. The scientists called this study the strongest evidence against the existence of special mental powers.
