In 1915, Makita Corporation began as a company that repaired and sold electric motors. In 1938, the company became Makita Electric Works and became the first Japanese company to market as well as manufacture electric planers as well as other power tools in 1958. It soon gained a reputation for reliable and reasonably priced tools. The angle grinder, which Makita introduced in 2005, was an example of this. Today, it remains a useful tool for the handyman to the commercial builder.
