Eden Foods began as a co-operative in the 1960s in Ann Arbor, Michigan. From there, it became a bakery and a cafeteria where it was possible to buy "natural, organic, and macrobiotic food." In 1972, the company opened a warehouse, began relationships with Japanese artisan food-makers and imported rice vinegar, tea, shou, etc. The business in food service had begun.
