Tourki Mohamed Ali
Tourki has worked for nine years in the area of community development, especially in education, gender equality, health, new technologies, and environmental protection. He is currently the President of a youth association in his village, where he mentors the youth for the purpose of social development. He was the Coordinator, Grant Writer and Project Manager of a community center funded by his association and the US Embassy in Madagascar. Tourki has also worked with UNFPA and UNDP Comoros in communication activities. He is a 2016 Mandela Washington Fellow, a US department of state program initiated by President Obama for young African leaders. He also participated as a Comoros delegate at the African Union Regional Youth Consultation in Windhoek, Namibia where he had the opportunity to represent French speaking countries on media.
Tourki participated in a six week public management institute at Howard University Washington D.C, and he enhanced his leadership skills through many sessions in US institutions like the US Congress, the UN Foundations, US Department of State and Department of Labor, ASPA, Oracle and Yahoo. With his leadership experience, he had the opportunity to work in many areas such as good governance, peace and security, election monitoring, gender equality, communication management, project management, event management, and health care with local, national, and international organizations.
Tourki founded the first community center in his region. This community center help the local people to have a library, computer skills, English courses in an English center founded by him; the first women association which stands for women and girls' rights. He founded also the youth poetry club in the community. After his return to Comoros from the Mandela Washington Fellowship, he founded the Youth Integration Initiative in order to help youth participate in the socioeconomic development of Comoros through a tremendous inclusion of young people in governmental actions through advocacy and social engagement. They celebrated for the first time in Comoros, the African Union Youth Day in three main topics: Good governance and Human rights, Business and Entrepreneurship and Education. Tourki is currently working as grant writer and Project Manager of an English center financed by The Pollination Project. In addition, he works as a Project Manager and Grant Writer of the community radio station project with the Resolution Project. Tourki is a 2017 One Young World Ambassador and Resolution venture winner. He is now working at the UNICEF Comoros as an Intern in the communication and protection-Inclusion department.
