End of confinement and short summer break

End of confinement and short summer break

What an odd 3 months it has been - shortly after our last visit we went into confinement. This meant schools closed, borders closed, no leaving house except for food shopping and a short walk once a day within 1km of house. We all worked from home and it some ways life became less hectic but we were lucky as other than our freedom we were spared fi
7 months away

7 months away

We have not been to St. André for 7 months - partly due to COVID and partly due to illness last summer. We have had total lockdown, partial lockdown and now have curfew 18h to 06h with restaurants, sports centres and cinemas shut. All shops other than large indoor shopping centres are open. It has been a very odd time - when I think about it it se
Agnès departs

Agnès departs

We left home on Friday 10 July after work as on Saturday will leave for Granny’s from Macon. The Geneva train was cancelled but we are just glad that the trains are running and actually the trip from Macon to Paris is only 1hour 45mins. Agnès has been asking if we could stop at the diner in Macon and we arrived around 19h45. We all had burgers a
After the heatwave

After the heatwave

The end of June brought an exceptional 10 days of hot weather. Apparently such a precocious heatwave has not happened since records began. In Ferney we reached over 35° and when I checked the temperatures for St. André they were pushing 40°. We left the Pays de Gex in sunshine and 27°. When we reached Macon the sky suddenly darkened and en rout
Autumn weekend

Autumn weekend

We arrived under blue skies and sun on Sat 21 Sept. The weather has turned autumnal but we are lucky to have lovely autumn days here. The afternoons are still well over 25° but the mornings are definitely crisp. All was ok at the house and after unloading and ripping out some weeds we went off to the Etape Charollaise for lunch. We even sat out in
End of Winter start of Coronavirus

End of Winter start of Coronavirus

Firstly the good news - Winter has ended. Actually we didn’t have a winter to speak of, hardly freezing and a very brief flurry of snow. I looked at temperatures in St. André and there were one or two -5° but here and there. So we did not use much fioul and no frozen pipes. The less good news is that we are at the beginning of the Coronavirus p
Brief Friday night stay

Brief Friday night stay

We have had a busy summer with travel to Slovenia and Croatia and Agnès gone on travels for a month so we decided to take Friday off work and pop over to check all ok. We arrived around 11h and the weather was nice a sunny - still hot but less so then the mid 30°s we’d had a few weeks ago. Jules did some weeding in the front and then watched th
9 place de l’église

9 place de l’église

We decided to pop to the house on Sun 01 Dec to prepare for the winter. The weather so far has been mild but next week some colder weather is forecast. When we left home there was snow (not sticking) but once we drove near Bourg the sky was blue and it was dry. It was so nice to have some light. We arrived at 12h30 and all ok. We only stayed about
Spring 2019

Spring 2019

Our first visit after the winter was the first weekend in March and all thankfully was fine at the house. The winter had been pretty mild and February was already like a spring with warm weather and blue skies. We have just returned from another visit on 16 March and the weather was gorgeous- 19° on Saturday afternoon. I did some garden tidying an
Spring gardening May 2019

Spring gardening May 2019

Spring has been a bit delayed this year and this weekend was the warmest and sunniest for quite a while. We set off on Sat morning and arrived at the house just before midday. We could hardly get to the house as the front garden had been taken over by weeds. We quickly unpacked the car and started ripping weeds out managing to fill three bags. We t
