A guide to Disney movie secrets
Walt Disney movies have inspired rumours and legends. Some Disney movies contain subliminal messages. These are messages that we do not notice, as they are stored in our subconscious. These messages are slipped in by Disney animators for their amusement. A famous example is the appearance of the word, "sex" in at least one scene in "The Lion King".
Silly secrets
An apparently deliberate joke is the continual changing of the length of Riley's beard during "National Treasure". A more trivial example is the appearance of the reflection of a boom mike in Riley's Ferrari in "National Treasure 2". Legend One fascinating legend about Disney movies concerns The Hunchback Of Notre Dame. During the song, "Out There", which is sung by Quasimodo, the camera takes us into the street below Notre Dame Cathedral and reveals a man cleaning the carpet from Aladdin while Pumbaa from The Lion King is carried through the street tied to a pole. Also in the crowd scene, Belle from "Beauty And The Beast" is seen strolling along the street reading a book. Oh, yes - there is also a satellite dish on one of the roof tops. Not bad for one scene in one movie.
The affair of the Lemmings
Lemmings
One of the Disney hidden secrets concerns a common belief about small rodents called Lemmings. People have believed for many years that Lemmings occasionally throw themselves off cliffs for no apparent reason. The reality is that Lemmings often have population explosions and as a result, large crowds of them try to move to less populated areas. Because of the nature of the terrain where Lemmings live, it is natural that many of the little creatures will fall off cliffs or drown whilst swimming in rivers and lakes in search of a new home.
In 1958, Disney filmed a nature documentary called "White Wilderness", which purported to show large crowds of Lemmings jumping off a cliff while migrating to new territory. The Lemmings filmed "jumping" from the cliff were actually launched into space using a turntable.
The Alladin message
Alladin Some so-called Disney movie secrets are products of our own talent for self-deception. One juicy Disney secret message concerns Alladin urging teenagers to "take off your clothes". He is supposed to be whispering these words as Rajah growls at him threateningly. According to the article on this message at the urban legend website, Snopes.com the words and who is actually speaking are difficult to determine. The full analysis can be found at Snopes.com(disney.films.aladdin). The supposed message in "Aladdin" and many other Disney movies would not even be a subject for discussion if it were not possible to closely examine the movies on video and laser discs.
