Early years Morse studied at the William Esper Studio, where he learned acting which led him to spend most of his spare time in New York’s theatre community before breaking into television and films. In 1980, David Morse was named one of the twelve most "Promising New Actors" by John Willis, and American theatre and film book editor, actor and producer. David Morse's wife In his personal life, Morse has been married to the actress Susan Wheller Duff since 1982. They have two children and live in Philadelphia.
Early career and theatre performances
Typecast David’s first major role as an actor was in the medical drama St. Elsewhere, where he played Dr Jack Morrison. After this, he went on to play the supporting role in many films, and was often casted as the “bad guy” due to his looks and acting abilities. This typecast peaked when he starred in the 1990 crime drama, Desperate Hours. Theatre work At different points in his career, Morse has returned to his roots of theatre acting and continued to apprear on stage. Most notably, he appeared on Broadway in 2007 and in Conor McPherson's The Seafarer in 2008. Ten years prior to this, he played Father Barry in the play adaptation of On the Waterfront along with James Gandolfini and Penelope Ann Miller.

Out of all of his work, Morse is perhaps best known for his role as Brutus "Brutal" Howell in The Green Mile. His character, a large man with a huge amount of compassion, is the opposite of his name, and became one of the most respected and lovable characters of the whole film.
