How to choose baby rugs
Baby room rugs can be very beneficial as your child grows. They provide a nice play area and extra cushioning while your child explores. Before making a purchase on any baby nursery rugs, you should consider several different factors such as price, fabric, size, colour and ease of use.
Decide on a budget
A budget is very important because kids' bedroom rugs have a wide price range. Certain factors that you must consider later on will help you to determine an approximate price range for the best baby rug for your nursery.
Choose natural or synthetic
Both types of rugs are fully functional, but the choice depends on your family's needs. If there is a history of allergies in the family or if you prefer more organic and eco-friendly products, rugs made of natural and organic fibres are best. Otherwise, synthetic fabrics work just as well and give you more options to choose from.
Pick a rug style
Shaggy, fluffy or puffy rugs should generally be avoided unless they are also machine washable. Plenty of spills and accidents will happen on the rug and these types of rugs will hold everything in. These rugs are also more likely to shed and the particles will be breathed in by the baby. Lambskin rugs are a good in-between as they are soft and fibrous, but not too puffy. However, it should also be considered that they require special cleaning. Stain-resistant rugs and rugs which have no backing are easier to clean because they are machine washable.
Choose the weave type
The type of weave is also very important. Dense and tight weaves are more expensive, but they will also last for a long longer period. Moreover, they can withstand all the wear that a baby may put on the rug when s/he starts crawling and playing. Homemade weaved rugs are an inexpensive alternative that will allow you to control the density and tightness of the weave. This option also incorporates all the other important decisions which have to be made on the baby rug.
Decide on the aesthetics
Lighter colours open up a room and make the room look not only bigger, but more inviting. Small patterns may look too busy and give the room a more cluttered feeling. Big bold patterns with a lot of contrast are more interesting for the baby to look at. They will also help with the child's visual development.
