A buyer's guide to home bars for sale
There's so much to choose from. Make sure you have the right components for a comfortable bar.
Make room first, then to shopping
Space The first thing anyone should consider when buying a bar for their home is where to put it. Some people have a nice finished-basement to put it in, but not everyone. There needs to be enough space for the bar itself, a room to stand behind it and move around easily. There also needs to be room for the stools to be pulled out and sat in comfortably without bumping into something behind them, as well as room for someone who isn’t at the bar to walk behind them. Once there’s enough room and the spot is picked, the rest is easy. Style Now, the style of bar needs to be chosen. Make it match other furnishings or create a whole new ambience at home. It can be designed in any decor; like a tropical bar on the beach, or like a sports bar, whatever is wanted. Or, just keep an open mind and look through all the choices online.
Consider these points when finding the right bar
Once the general style is selected, then the details need to be taken care of. There are some questions to consider:
- Is a sink necessary?
- Are cabinets important?
- What about shelving behind the bar?
- How much alcohol will there be on any give day?
- How many people can be seated at the bar?
- How many different kinds of glasses will be needed?
- What kind of stools?
- Where will the ice be kept?
Stools
Stools are as varied as liquors (high stools, low stools, oak bar stools, leather stools, bar stools with backs, etc), and just like any furniture, one should shop around to compare prices and styles. Shop online and look for local bar stools for sale in the classified ads. Whatever is chosen, it must match the bar’s general decor. So, a tropical-themed bar should have stools that look like they’re made up of bamboo, coconuts or something tropical.
The number of stools to buy depends on the size of the bar:
How many stools can it accommodate?
Make it easy to keep clean
The surface of the bar should be made up of easily cleanable materials. The surface will take a lot of drips and spills, so the surface should be one which will not stain easily.
Make sure there is a handy place to store the hand-towels and cleaning cloths where nobody can see them. Have a trash bin so that it is easy to find for both bartender and friends. Also, have some bar napkins to place under each drink.
Think of a bar you like and bring the ideas home.
