Direct TV and Dish Network provide English, Spanish and international TV channel packages for households in the United States. Although you can find similar package plans from both companies, their channel selections, prices, additional high definition (HD) prices and length of service plans differ slightly. This article aims at establishing a comparison between Dish Network TV vs Direct TV.

Packages

DirectTV offers four English channel packages that vary in the number of channels and cost. As of July 2011, the packages cost from $29.99 to $83.99 per month with a discount of $31 per month. Dish Network offers eight English channel packages that cost between $24.99 and $84.99 as of July 2011, with $10 to $20 dollar discounts. Both suppliers also offer Spanish and international channel packages. The basic Spanish package starts at $24.99 at Direct TV and $19.99 at Dish Network.

Price

Both Direct TV and DishTV offer several different channel packages. As of July 2011, the least expensive package at Direct TV costs $29.99 a month with a 24-month service plan and includes 150 channels. You can add HD or DVR service to the plan for $10 or $7 each per month. Dish Network offers a package for $24.99 a month for the first 12 months, with a 24-month plan.The package includes over 60 channels and HD cover. Dish Network also offers
120-channel packages with $29.99 per month for the first 12-months. The most expensive plan at Direct TV costs $83.99 per month, for a 24-month plan, includes over 285 channels and HD, while the most expensive package at Dish Network costs $84.99 per month for the first 12 months, and $104.99 afterwards. A 24-month plan is required and the plan includes over
315 Dish TV channels and 30 premium movie channels.

Other facilities offered

You do not need to buy any equipment and there are no start-up costs with Direct TV. In addition, all the Direct TV packages include a free professional installation, handling, delivery and 3-month free trials for some premium channels. Also, if you order online, Direct TV includes HD and/or DVR receivers in your order. Dish Network is offering a free 3-month Blockbuster trial if you sign up for a service plan before 10 August 2011. The trial includes an unlimited DVD service at a time plan and in-store exchanges.
