A guide to the map of Georgia

Commonly abbreviated to GA, this state is the 24 largest in terms of area in the United States, spanning 49,425 square miles. It is 230 miles wide and 298 miles long, with 2.6 per cent of its territory consisting of water. Its capital and largest city is Atlanta, while its nickname is the Peach State.

Location & boundaries

Boundaries
The map of GA shows that it borders South Carolina along the course of the Savannah Rover from the Atlantic Ocean, running north west to where the Tugaloo and Seneca Rivers meet, continuing from there up the Tugallo River to the Chattouga River. The border then turns around Rabun County sharply, so that the state's western boundary heads south and south-eastern, until it then meets the westernmost point of the Chattahoochee River near West Point. After that, it moves on down to where the river ends at the Flint River, before then heading in a straight line almost due east and somewhat south to the origin of the St Mary's River. This river then forms the rest of the boundary back to the Atlantic Ocean. States
The state shares a boundary with Florida, South Carolina, Alabama, Tennessee and North Carolina. Georgia is the largest state in terms of land area east of the Mississippi, although if water area is included then it is the fourth largest.

Geography & travel

Highways
The Georgia state map shows that its main Interstate highways are I-75 and I-85. Other major Interstate highways include I-20, I-24 and I-285, which is capital city Atlanta's perimeter route. I-575 links with northern Georgia counties on I-75. Tracks
There are several rail routes on the map of Georgia, with major freight lines including the Norfolk Southern Railway and CSX. There are two Amtrak routes which run through the state as passenger services.. Airport
The state also contains what is reportedly the world's busiest passenger airport in Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport (ATL), There are 107 other public use airports in the state.
Population
The state is ranked ninth in terms of population despite its large geographical size, with just over 8 million residents.
Parks
There are 63 parks in Georgia, 15 of which are historic sites and 48 of which are state parks. There are numerous other areas administered by the National Park Service.
