Founded in 1908, the University of British Columbia (UBC) is made up of two campuses: UBC Vancouver and UBC Okanagan. With over 54000 students, UBC has the distinction of being a highly ranked research university. It is among the top 40 institutions of higher education in world. Academia

The University of BC offers students the chance to earn undergraduate, masters and PhD programmes. In addition, distance learning programmes are offered at both the Vancouver and Okanagan campuses. Foreign students who come to UBC without a strong English background can take classes with the English as a Second Language (ESL) department so as to improve their skills. UBC has an exchange programme with the Korean University. Every year, 100 Korean students are selected to spend an academic year in Canada. These students are treated in the same manner as the Canadian students and have access to the same services and facilities.

UBC Student Services

UBC Student Services is a place where students can get help, support and information they need. Students need a password and a login ID to access large parts of the site. The Students Services website allows students to view their grades online, to monitor their academic progress and to register for classes. Video tutorials are available to help students to set up their accounts and to learn how to access parts of the site.

UBC libraries

UBC has 21 library branches and divisions. Many of these are dedicated for specific purposes. For example, the school has a Law, a Music, a Health, a Science and an Asian library. In addition to this, the libraries are part of an Interlibrary Loan programme. Library hours
Students, faculty and community members who wish to use the libraries can find the precise hours of operation on the UBC library website. Most of the libraries are closed during weekend. They are open from 9 am to 5 pm. Handicap access People with handicaps can easily access the UBC Libraries. The UBC library website lists the handicap entrances for all its affiliated branches. Those who wish to do so can print out a map of the branch that they wish to visit. On this map, the handicap entrances are clearly marked.
