An introduction to men's skin care

Gone are the days when skincare was synonymous to women. Today, the metro-sexual man believes in skincare. Availability of men’s grooming products such as male make-up and shaving products proves that the modern man is concerned of taking care of his skin. Read this article to learn more about skincare for men, including men’s grooming tips.

Difference between men’s and women’s skin

Men’s skin is oilier as compared to women’s skin. Men’s skin is prone to sun damage. Due to these differences, cosmetic products for women do not suit men. This is the reason to why you should know about taking good care of your skin.

Cleansing, exfoliation and moisturising

Earlier, men would use soap to wash face. However, soap leaves the skin dry.
A good face wash for men would remove oil and dirt from your skin, and keep it clean. Oil and dirt clog the skin pores, thereby giving way to acne and breakouts. Cleansing Use a good cleanser or face wash to cleanse your face. Cleansing removes the oil and dirt from the surface of your skin, but does not deal with dirt clogged skin pores deep inside. Exfoliation The solution to this is exfoliation. Use a good men’s face scrub to exfoliate. Exfoliation not only flushes the dirt out of the pores, but it also softens hair follicles of your facial skin, thereby making it easier to shave. Moisturising It is a common notion that moisturising is only for men with dry skin but yet, this is not true. You need to moisturise irrespective of your skin type. Cleansing and exfoliation can leave your skin dry. Moreover, shaving dehydrates your facial skin. Hence, you should use a moisturising lotion with SPF (Sun Protection Formula). Sun Protection Formula protects your skin from the harmful UVA and UVB rays of the run.

Men’s shaving products

As men have to shave regularly, you should keep a good quality shaving kit. The kit must have a razor (open razor or straight razor), after-shave lotion, shaving foam, and some cotton. Follow a good skincare regimen. You may also buy concealer cosmetics to hide scars or marks. If you have zits on your face, you should use a good acne-care skin product.
