D batteries: The facts

D battery is the dimension of dry cell. It resembles a cylinder and has electrical contacts in both its the ends with a bump on the positive side. D cells are used in boom boxes, transmitters, radios where there is a need for soaring current drain application. D cells were widely known as flashlight batteries sine even chargeable and rechargeable batteries can be made.

Facts about D battery

D battery is a popularly electro chemical cell found globes. In case of rechargeable D battery, the average voltage is 1.5 volts (namely battery AA) while in case of rechargeable, the minimal voltage is 1.2 volts. However, the highest is 1.6 volts in some special cells. D battery was introduced by a carbon company in the year 1898. The working of D battery is dependent on two technologies: One is the alkaline battery and the other one is zinc carbon technology. However, alkaline cells are preferred than the zinc ones due to its life, economy and high performance. There are two types of D batteries: Rechargeable and non-rechargeable batteries. Those batteries which cannot be recharged are called the primary batteries while those which can be recharged are called secondary batteries. In the US, the sale of D batteries came up to 8% of the total sales of batteries for the year 2008. In Switzerland, the sales of D batteries amounted to 3.4% in case of primary batteries and 1.4% in case of secondary batteries.

Advantages of D cells

The largest advantage of D cells is that it is the most inexpensive one. The D cells have longer life-span than other batteries. The D cells are famous since decades and still continue to live up to the expectations of the consumers. These cells give abundance of power than any other batteries for the least cost. The modern technology has lead to the emergence of such batteries which are eco-friendly. Its chemical composition is in such a way that it shoves the industries forward. The D batteries are high-power batteries and can be used for almost all D purposes. It has sky scraping high-density hence giving those batteries a longer and stable life which is three to five times more than that of other batteries. These types of batteries are prevalent in the world. It has more survival period besides durability. They are used for hefty transportable items. They use both alkaline and zinc carbon technology. The zinc carbon is inexpensive and work steadily whereas the alkaline battery is modern and eco-friendly. These batteries perform so well even at -30 degrees.
