The first thing to think about when buying racks and stands for your TV is what kind of TV stand you want and what kind of TV you have.
Wall mount LCD With the ready availability and relatively cheap cost of a wall mount TV, many people are foregoing TV stands entirely for a wall mount LCD and some TV mounts or brackets.
Size of mounts When you opt for brackets or TV, you simply need to decide what size of mounts you need. The mounts will usually be rated for a specific size, usually between 20 inches and 56 inches, or more depending on which brackets you choose.
Wall brackets Wall brackets can sometimes also have other features, like the ability to tilt the TV down for easier viewing. If you opt for a bracket, then you do not need to have a full stand, although you may want to have some kind of stand or table below the television brackets on the wall, so that you can store the TV equipment.
Flat mount TV If you do not have an LCD TV, then obviously a flat mount TV won't work for you and you will not be able to put your TV on the wall. You will, in that case, need to get a traditional TV stand.

TV stand features

When you opt for a TV that is not a wall mounted television or when you simply don't want a TV wall, you will need to think about the size of the stand, the materials and the functionality. The stand can be of wood, metal or plastic, but should match your decor. It should also have a way to hide unsightly TV wires. Often, you can also find a stand, which has extra shelves for DVDs and video games which will help to control clutter.
