How to design a Breakfast bar kitchen
Breakfast bars are incredibly useful pieces of furniture and they can serve many purposes aside from the ones most closely associated with their name. Bar counters, as they are also known, are great for so many uses that they are becoming more and more popular. If you are designing your own breakfast bar, this article gives you some things to consider.
Building materials
Before you begin to consider what features you would like your breakfast bar to have, it is important to consider the limitations and restrictions that you may have with using certain materials and surfaces for its construction. The best thing to do is to get a rough sketch of the ideas that you have and then take your ideas to a builders' merchants (like Homebase, Jacksons, B&Q or Wicks in the UK) to get some better ideas about what materials you will be using. Sometimes, this will be relatively simple. If you just want an easy breakfast bar with room to throw a couple of bar stools underneath, then you may only need enough wood to make the top out of and two legs. Just buy a simple vinyl covering to protect the top surface wood with. This gives you a simply sturdy and effective bar. However, if you need something more complicated, perhaps with space saver capabilities or hidden places to store wooden stools etc, then you may need to consider other material options.
Design features
Breakfast bars are great for kitchen gadget lovers and even better for people who love clever designs which extend beyond the usual swivel stools and hidden cupboard space for bins. Think carefully about what you want your breakfast bar to do for you and more importantly, think carefully about who will be using it. If you have small children, it is may not be the best idea for them to be sat up high on dining stools if there is quite a fall beneath them. Careful consideration gives rise to better and safer design decisions. Storage Think about storage too. Bars can have drawers and cupboards built-in like any other kitchen surface and most people alternate space for stool storage and space for cupboards and drawers. The counter-top Also think about what type of counter top you want. Granite and shiny surfaces are great for being easy to clean but oak counters and oak stools make a classic country kitchen combination. Online search Doing online searches will reveal so many design ideas that you will be needing a few more breakfasts to decide!
