How to get free PC security

Every computer which is connected to the Internet needs to have security software installed on it. This software includes an anti-virus application, firewall, and anti-spyware applications. This type of software will keep a computer secure from viruses, spyware, malware and other file infections. For the best computer protection, you should keep this software updated and run daily or weekly scans.

Antivirus software

There are many free anti-virus applications available for immediate download on the Internet. Some of the well-known applications are AVG Free, Avast Free, Avira AntiVir, Nortons Antivirus, and Comodo Internet Security. Search for these software applications using your favorite search engine, such as Google or Bing. Download and install the software on your computer. Important note Make sure you update the software before you run a virus scan. You should have only one antivirus application installed on your computer. Most virus security applications let you configure them to update automatically. You should also configure it to run a virus scan on your computer once per day. These scans can take some time. So, it is best to schedule the scan when you will not be using your computer.

Spyware software

There are many free spyware software applications available on the Internet. SUPERAntiSpyware Free Edition, Malwarebytes, and Ad-Aware Free are some of the better known applications. Search for these applications using your search engine, such as Google. Download and install them on your computer. Update the software before you run a scan on your computer. You can have more than one antispyware application installed on your computer. You should run a spyware scan on your computer at least once a week. If you use your computer every day you may want to run a scan more than once per week. Always update the software before you run each scan.

Firewall

Windows has a firewall but many people choose to install their own. If you do install another firewall, you should turn the Windows firewall off. Some of the better known free firewall applications are ZoneAlarm Free, Online Armor, and Comodo Free Personal Firewall. You should only have one firewall turned on at one time. Never leave the Windows firewall turned on if you install another firewall application. If you have two firewalls turned on at the same time, it will cause problems with your computer, and neither firewall will work.
