How to get rid of viruses on your laptop computer

One of the most dangerous things for your computer are viruses. In this article, I am going to cover how to protect your computer from viruses and then how to remove a virus from your computer.

Protecting your laptop from viruses

Problems with virus
A virus can do many things to harm or compromise your computer. A virus might mess up the functions of programs, or slow down your computer by running unnecessary or useless processes in the background. Other viruses could collect your personal information, such as passwords and user names and submit these to other parties who could use this information in a way that could harm you. Antivirus software To protect your computer from these potential threats you should have some form of antivirus software. This software, even a program that comes with your operating like Windows Defender will still provide some protection. However, an antivirus software such as that provided by Norton Internet Security or AVG would be very beneficial. You should be able to find a suitable program for your needs and most programs tend to have a free version or a free trial for a certain period of time so that you can test it out and see if you like it before you purchase the retail version.

How to remove a virus

Scanning process You can take your computer to a computer shop and have them remove the problem from your computer with their own software. However if you have your own antivirus software and you have a virus the first thing you must do is scan your computer. You may need to go into scanning options and select settings that broaden the search to scan for more things to find the problem. Adding extra things to scan for can make the scan take longer, but it is necessary for the safety of your computer. Removal process Once you have discovered what is troubling your computer, your antivirus software will give you options that you can take to fix the virus or get rid of malware or spyware. Your program will usually give you a quarantine option, clean option and a delete option. Quarantine will freeze the affected program or the virus and stop it from having ill effects on your laptop or spreading. The clean feature will clean the virus, in the infected program and remove the virus and store it in a sort of recycling bin. Delete will do all of the first options and then permanently delete it once it has been cleaned. Final word
To protect your computer, you should keep your antivirus software up-to-date and scan regularly. Most programs provide ongoing threat detection in order to keep you safe.
