How to make a tiered cake stand

Few things make a cake look nicer than serving it on a multi tiered cake stand. Whether you are making a wedding cake or simply want to add a touch of class to an ordinary cake, a cake stand is the way to go. This article will tell you how to make your own multi-tiered cake stand.

Preperation

Prepare
The first step to making a multi-tiered cake stand is to ensure you have all the right equipment.
You will need at least three different cake plates, ideally in descending size.
You will also need several pillars for each plate to stand on. For a decorative touch, you may want to add a little ribbon.
Finally, of course, you will need either three cakes of descending size, or a lot of cup cakes.

Baking

Making the cakes
Before you begin making your cake stand, you will want to make your cakes.
These may be store bought, but nothing beats the taste of home made cake.
If you want to satisfy all your guests, you should keep things simple with a plain sponge cake.
If you are serving cupcakes, make several different flavours of icing, so everyone can enjoy the cakes.

Preparing the cake

Preparing
If you are making a large cake, you will have to ensure it is the same size as cake plate it is to go on.
Also, you may have to poke the pillars through the cake, so make sure you leave gaps in the icing where they have to go.
Alternatively, you could remove a circular piece from the centre of the cake and the pillar will stand in this gap.

Assembling the cake stand

Assembling
Place the largest cake plate on the bottom, with the largest cake on it on it. Then, either push pillars gently through the spaces left in the icing, or place them in the gap in the centre.
Place the next size of cake plate on the pillars and repeat the process.
Repeat this until your cake stand is complete.
If you are serving cupcakes, assemble the cake stand first and place the variety of cup cakes around the pillars.
For an added touch, you may want to attach some ribbon to the cake plates, using a stapler or a little Blu-Tak.

Serve and enjoy

Final word
Finally it is time to serve.
Carry your cake stand in to wow your guests and then let them eat cake.

Raytheon created the first commercial microwave in 1954, and Amana created the first domestic one in 1967. Commercial microwave ovens are a useful tool in any restaurant and catering kitchen.
