Aesthetically, an oval area rug can improve your decor and help to make a statement and tie a room together. An oval or a round rug, on the other hand, tends to look best when there is a repetition of shapes above it. A large oval rug in between two sofas, on the other hand, could look out of place and could even be a tripping hazard for people getting up off of the sofa, unless it was a small rug which just sat under an oval coffee table.

You do, however, need to make sure you can find an oval rug or carpet pad to go below the rug. Oval braided rugs as well as other types of rugs may have a tendency to slip without a pad underneath.
