Facts about oval area rugs
Aesthetically, an oval area rug can improve your decor and help to make a statement and tie a room together. Area rugs can also make a floor space seem warmer so that it is more comfortable to walk on. Area rugs can also act as a sound deadening agent. In fact, sometimes apartments or flats require tenants to put down area rugs so as not to disturb the people below them with footsteps. When buying an area rug, there are a number of different considerations in making your choice as to the right rug for you. Shape One consideration is the shape of the rug. There are several main shapes when it comes to area rugs: rectangle, square, round and oval. Square and rectangle rugs are most often used in living rooms or to create seating areas and conversation pieces. An oval or a round rug, on the other hand, tends to look best when there is a repetition of shapes above it. For instance, if you have a round dining table or you have an oval kitchen table, then choosing a round or oval area rug may be a great selection to mimic the lines of the table. There, an oval rug can make the room look finished and cohesive. A large oval rug in between two sofas, on the other hand, could look out of place and could even be a tripping hazard for people getting up off of the sofa, unless it was a small rug which just sat under an oval coffee table.
Choosing your rug
Once you have decided that an oval rug is the right shape for you, the next thing you must do is to decide what your rug will be made of. There are a variety of different options for oval area rugs. You could select an oval braided rug, which is a common style. You could opt for a wool rug, a synthetic rug or a rug made of a mix of materials. The rug could be traditional in style, with an oriental pattern or it could be a more modern and contemporary oval area rug. Since oval rugs are versatile and not necessarily solidly traditional, almost any decorating style goes with these types of rugs. You do, however, need to make sure you can find an oval rug or carpet pad to go below the rug. Oval braided rugs as well as other types of rugs may have a tendency to slip without a pad underneath.
