Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc.: The facts

This article gives more information about what the Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc. does and where you can get further information about their services directly.

What is the Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc.?

What is the nature of the PPLS business?
Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc. offers specialised legal services in the United States of America (USA) and in Canada. The company manages and markets over
50 independent legal services providers which themselves develop pre-paid legal plans. Pre-paid legal plans are a form of insurance. You pay a set amount, usually monthly by direct debit, (although some services just have single yearly payments), and then you are covered if you need certain types of legal advice or provision of legal services. The Pre-Paid Legal Services Inc. also offers an identity theft prevention, monitoring and restoration service should you be in the unfortunate position to have to use their services. Most of the company's sales are categorised as multi-level marketing sales. Today, Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. has its headquarters in Ada, Oklahoma. The company owns several subsidiaries. Pre-Paid Legal Casualty, Inc. operates in Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, Georgia, Illinois, Montana, Nebraska, Tennessee and Wisconsin. There are three subsidiaries which serve individual states: Pre-Paid Legal Services, Inc. of Florida, National Pre-Paid Legal Services of Mississippi, Inc. and Legal Service Plans of Virginia, Inc. PPL Legal Care of Canada Corporation operates in the country of Canada. A brief company history
The company was set-up by Stonecipher who was involved in a car accident and in trying to get compensation, he completely depleted his life savings. In the mid-1970s, he went onto setting up the Sportsman's Motor Club which provided legal cost reimbursement to its members if they were involved in accidents and needed legal help themselves. The company's main activities involved the sale of insurance plans. However, over the course of the 1980s and 1990s, there were lots of allegations of pre-paid legal fraud and that the pre-paid legal scams carried out across various states were sourced at PPLS. This greatly damaged the company reputation and indicates how hard it is to recover from such allegations, especially in this field.
