Mount Teide The island was created by volcanic activity approximately 20-50 million years ago. This volcanic activity continues to this day, with the most obvious evidence being Mount Teide, the island's high point and the third largest volcano in the world. It is surrounded by a natural park and both are definitely worth a visit. The whole area is a World Heritage Site. Carnival There are many churches and museums to visit, showing the history of the island from the original inhabitants called the 'guanches' to the present day. However, there is one cultural event that can't be missed and that is 'Carnival' which takes place in February and is one of Spain's biggest and best carnivals.
