Where to find cheap holidays in Tenerife

Tenerife is the biggest of the Canary Islands which are governed by Spain although, situated just off the coast of North Africa. Tenerife is a very popular family holiday destination and you can often find cheap holidays to Tenerife if you look carefully.

Getting there and where to stay

Flights Flights into Tenerife's two airports run daily with travel from either mainland Spain or other European countries made easy and cheap with the low cost airlines that deal with the Canaries. Most holiday makers fly into Tenerife South airport because of its closeness to the main resort areas on the south side of the island. Where to stay Most Tenerife cheap deals will take you to the south of the island to the resort areas of Los Cristianos and Playa de las Americas. The weather on the south side of the island tends to be warm and sunny all year round. It is here that you will find the cheap hotels and hostels that suit the budget customer, although, in recent years, an effort has been made to get rid of the 'drunken lout' image with more up-market resorts and luxury hotels being built. The north side of the island, around the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife, tends to have cooler weather and it is where you will find the more sedate hotels and resort areas. There are hotels to suit all budgets and levels of luxury.

What to see and do

Sea life There are many opportunities to enjoy the sea life around the island, either by scuba diving or by taking one of the boat trips to watch whales and dolphins in their natural habitat. Also, visit the 'Loro Parque' on the north side of the island where you will see a variety of birds, dolphin and sea lion shows and one of the most impressive 'penguinariums' this side of the Atlantic. Mount Teide The island was created by volcanic activity approximately 20-50 million years ago. This volcanic activity continues to this day, with the most obvious evidence being Mount Teide, the island's high point and the third largest volcano in the world. It is surrounded by a natural park and both are definitely worth a visit. The whole area is a World Heritage Site. Carnival There are many churches and museums to visit, showing the history of the island from the original inhabitants called the 'guanches' to the present day. However, there is one cultural event that can't be missed and that is 'Carnival' which takes place in February and is one of Spain's biggest and best carnivals. Last word Tenerife is perfect for a year round sunshine holiday with deals on flights and hotels to tempt all travellers.
