Where to find real work from home
Many people would like to work from home, particularly those with young children or other responsibilities. There are a number of jobs which are traditionally done at home, such as envelope stuffing. However, many are badly paid, and it can be impossible to earn a living by doing them. However, it is possible to find real work from home. This article gives some suggestions on the best work to do at or from home.
Freelance writing
Writing is one of the jobs which many people can do at home. There are a number of websites which will pay you to write short articles. Try Suite101.com or several others which you can probably find by doing a search. You can also earn money by writing articles for magazines, and details of this can be found in the Writers' and Artists' Yearbook or the Writer's Handbook, both of which are published every year. It is quite a competitive field, but you are likely to be able to break into it if you have some kind of specialist knowledge.
Market research interviewing
Market research interviewing used to be a very good way of working from home, and many people made a good living by doing it. In recent years, the work has dried up to a certain extent, but making a living in this way is still possible. You may find market research jobs advertised in your local paper or at the job centre. Or contact the Market Research Society for a list of their member companies, and write to some of the companies.
Start your own business
Many people run small businesses from home. It is possible to do any number of things - pet sitting, typing, running a craft business and so on. You will need to be fairly organised, and to let the Inland Revenue know what you intend to do. Work at home businesses can be a hard work, and it might be worth going on a course to cover some of the issues and problems that are involved. However, many people do it, and it does give you the freedom to work from home at your own time.
Other works from home ideas
Many people make a living by selling items on the auction site eBay. You may also be able to find work online and/or on the phone, doing telesales or telemarketing, for example.
