Understanding the Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT)

There are three sections in the GMAT: Analytical Writing section, Quantitative section, and the Verbal section. The allotted time for these sections is 60 minutes, 75 minutes and 75 minutes respectively. As it is a computer adaptive test, based on the correctness or incorrectness of your answer, the difficulty level of the next question would vary.

Why do you need a GMAT prep book?

GMAT preparation books are designed to help you crack the GMAT. While you can also prepare for this test on your own, a GMAT book would give you the right direction and strategy to prepare for this challenging exam. There are two types of GMAT preparation books - the GMAT official guides and other preparation guides. You can find information about this test and the official guide on this website - Mba.com (the-gmat). This website also offers free test preparation software that has practice sections, full-length computer adaptive practice tests with answers; real time scoring and other things that would help you acquaint yourself with the GMAT.

Top GMAT books

Cracking the GMAT by Princeton Review, Kaplan GMAT, the official guide for GMAT quantitative review, and the official guide for GMAT verbal review are some of the best GMAT books available. Cracking the GMAT has some of the best questions. However, it does not have test-taking strategies. Also, the answers lack explanation. Kaplan GMAT is a decent book. However, it lacks explanatory answers and test-taking strategies. Hence, to know which book suits you, you must do some research online. Analyse your weak areas and find books that address them. You can also join GMAT forums and websites to seek help from people who have already cracked, or are planning to write the GMAT. GMAT study material should be chosen after proper research.
