A history of the South Florida Business Journal

The South Florida Business Journal is a specialised printed weekly publication and online service for the area of South Florida, especially Miami. Owned by the American City Business Journals (ACBJ) it is one of their stable of 40 publications carefully targeted to a specific business community in America.

Printed news

Although based in Fort Lauderdale the papers focus is undoubtedly Miami. That isn't to say that other states, national or international news, are ignored but its prominence is nearly always controlled by it's impact on South Florida. It is highly regarded for its sections on industry and commerce as well as being thought of as a good place to start when looking for South Florida real estate. With the resilience of the so-called economic recovery still under debate, the paper has come into its own, giving up to date news of foreclosures and bankruptcies.

Online service

The online service includes a traditional web page and email alerts that can be geared towards your own particular field of business. Tabs
The easy to operate tabs on their homepage are broken down into news, industries, events, companies, resources, marketplace and careers. Once selected they give more detailed options. For instance, the industries tab leads to sub groups of commercial real estate, energy, finance, health care, HR, insurance, manufacturing and retailing & restaurants. Fee
Although the website does provide free, excellent, real time information, if you want to see an exact replication of the printed paper, you will need to buy a subscription. The rates vary depending on if you wanted print as well as digital copies but the basic price for digital issues only starts at around $60 US dollars for 60 issues. There are also subscription benefits including a free digital copy of the Book of Lists. This book provides hard to find information on the leading buyers, businesses and employers. Their website can be found at Bizjournals.com (Southflorida)
