A review of Finish Line bicycle lubricant

A review on Finish Lines lubricants including Wet, Dry and Ceramic. All of these have each been used by many people for at least a year, and the account below accounts for the way in which it held up and the technology involved in making the lubricants work.

Finish Line Dry Lubes

Dry lubes are, as the name suggests, dry lubricants that are applied wet but quickly form a Teflon coating on the moving part, a lot like a non stick pan. They are best suited to Summer riding when there is a lot of dust around and not a lot of rain. The Teflon® fluoropolymer and specialised synthetic oils allow it to stick without attracting dirt and grime into the moving parts, which would otherwise form a damaging paste. This lubricant is designed for summer use for both road bikes and mountain bikes. The Teflon coating lasts anywhere between 20 - 30 rides before it starts needing a top up. The lube dries very quickly and leaves no white residue.
A feature of this lube is that it does not collect sticky residue that can be damaging to clothing or become difficult to remove. The product offers a smooth clean shift and is water-resistant, so if there are a few downpours, there is no need to re-apply a coat every time. Finish Line also offer the lube in the form of a Ceramic Wax Lube. It is just like the above product with the added toughness of a ceramic coating. If you look at metal under a microscope, you will see that there are lots of imperfections. With nanotechnology, they have developed a lube that fills in these imperfections with ceramic. It can be used for an entire season (about four months), so if you have an 'oil up and forget' attitude to mountain biking, then this is the stuff for you.

Finish Line Wet Lubes

Wet lubricant is designed for long distance rides and extreme weather conditions. As it suggests, it goes on wet and stays wet. The lubricant is designed for winter training or long distance riding, although unless the weather is terrible, the ceramic dry does the job well. Synthetic oils, anti-wear additives, and friction modifiers are just some of the ingredients keeping this oil in place. With Wet Lube, you do have to clean the drivetrain after every ride but in return, you get a well lubricated part that easily lasts for more than 100 miles. All Finish Line lubricants are non toxic and contain base oils that will start to degrade withing 28 days after exposure to soil-borne bacteria.
