Foo Fighters: biography
Foo Fighters is an American alternative post-grunge rock band, formed in 1995 by Nirvana's former drummer Dave Grohl. This article provides you with facts about the band's formation, production and achievements.
Beginnings
Dave Grohl was born on 14 January 1969 in Northern Virginia. His father was a flutist, and his mother sang in a vocal group. Therefore, there was nothing surprising about the fact that Dave developed outstanding musical abilities. Early years Since 1981, Dave started to play in the school band, performing hits of The Who and The Rolling Stones. In 1990, Dave joined the band Nirvana as a drummer. As far back as these years, living in the shadow of Cobain, Grohl wrote his own songs. Debut album release After the death of Nirvana front man Kurt Cobain in 1994, the band was broken up. At that time, Dave decided to release his debut album. Grohl anonymously called the record "Foo Fighters". The name was borrowed from the slang of American pilots of World War II,named as such unidentified flying objects and strange atmospheric phenomena.
Group’s career
The band played its debut concert in February 1995. Then there were such singles as "I'll Stick Around", "For All The Cows" and "Big Me". The Colour and the Shape (1997) In 1997, Foo Fighters released their second album. The disk contained such singles as "Monkey Wrench" and "My Hero". There Is Nothing Left to Lose (1998-2001) This was the name of their third album. "Learn to Fly" was their first single, which reached the top of the US Hot 100 hit parade. One by One (2002) In October 2002, the world heard the new work of Foo Fighters “One by One”. The band released 4 singles: "All My Life", "Times Like These", "Low" and "Have It All". In Your Honor (2005-2006) In June 2005, the band released a double album called "In Your Honor". The first CD included electronic rock songs, the second CD - only acoustic songs. Singles from the album are "Best of You", "DOA", "Resolve", "No Way Back" and "Miracle". Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace (2007 - 2008) This was the name of their new album, released in 2007. A single “The Pretender” preceded the album. Wasting Light (2011) The album "Wasting light" was released in April 2011. Dave describes the work on the new album as the heaviest in the history of Foo Fighters.
Achievements
1995 - The debut album “Foo Fighters” became multi-platinum and won a prestigious award “Best New Artist”.
2007 - The album "Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace" was nominated for five Grammy Awards and even won two of them.
