How to jailbreak an iPhone?

Jailbreaking is the process of hacking an iPhone to free it from Apple restrictions. As well as the iPhone has been regarded, it has been held back by limited customisability, text message privacy issues, and a lack of multitasking capabilities. However, iPhone Jailbreak can solve all of these problems and it is legal. This guide should only be attempted on iPhones with 3.0 firmware or below only and will teach you how to unlock an iPhone.

Downloading

In order to learn how to jailbreak your iPhone, you will first of all need to download a few programs. You will need to install Redsnow for windows, Mac or Linux and the 3.0 firmware for iPhone 2g. You will also need to download the 3.9 and 4.6 boatloaders if you need to unlock your iPhone in addition to the jailbreaking. Save all of these downloads in a folder named, 'jailbreak' so that it is easy to find.

Starting the jailbreak

Launch the Redsnow programme and click browse. Find the 3.0 firmware that you have downloaded and select it. Then click the 'Next' option to restore your phone to the 3.0 firmware.

Cydia

Choose to install the Cydia programme and unlock your iphone. This then allows the iPhone to be used on non-approved Apple carriers.

Bootloader

After you have chosen to unlock your phone, Redsnow will ask you to the identify the bootloader file that you downloaded in the first step which you should say yes to.

Turn off

Next, turn off your iPhone but leave it connected to the USB port and click the next option on the computer screen. From here, follow the on-screen instructions. A tab will appear on the screen which will state that the computer is jail breaking. This process should take a minute or less.

Last step

Finally, let your iPhone reboot, open the Cydia file which you downloaded earlier and you will be able to download as many cool applications as you like all free of charge and completely legally. As well as this, you will be able to make all sorts of modifications to your phone, such as installing new backgrounds, skins and screensavers, which you would not previously not have been able to do.
