How to order
Orange is one of the world's biggest mobile phone operators and offers a wide variety of pay-as-you-go tariffs to suit different users. Ordering pay-as-you-go sims for free from the Orange shop doesn't take long at all. Just head over to Freesim.orange.co.uk, where you make your order. All you need to do is enter your details and Orange will post your sim-card to you for free. After you've received your sim-card you will then have to choose a pay-as-you-go tariff, and this will usually involve paying a minimum of £10 for your first credit payment.
Picking a tariff
Orange has five tariffs available to pay-as-you-go customers. Monkey: This gives you free texts and a few free downloads from Orange's music store. It's nice and cheap and offers good value for younger users who like to text more. Dolphin: This tariff is aimed at users who want free internet and free texts. Dolphin is a good option if you have a smartphone and want to use a lot of data services Canary: The Canary tariff focuses on talktime and texting, which is good for the traditional user who isn't too concerned about mobile internet services. Racoon: This tariff doesn't give you any freebies, but it does provide very cheap flat rates for calls and texts. A good option if you only use your phone for quick calls. Camel: The Camel tariff focuses on providing cheap international calls, so if you travel a lot then it may be the right option for you.
Remember to shop around
While Orange offers free sim cards and a variety of tariffs, it's not the only operator out there. Make sure you shop around when looking for a pay-as-you-go deal. Many other operators offer free sim cards, such as O2, and they all have different tariffs that may better suit how you use your mobile. Also always make sure you read the small print in any pay-as-you-go contract, as there may be out of tariff costs associated with using certain services, such as mobile data.
