How to make greeting cards

Greeting cards are fun and inexpensive to make. They are great to give to people who will love a card made with a personal touch. We have a look here at how to make greeting cards.

Getting started

You will need some supplies for creating cards. Card is your main material as well as other types of paper, pens, cloth, foam shapes – you can really make greeting cards out of anything. For a basic card, you will need A4 size card. This can be purchased in a variety of colours and patterns. Some also come pre-folded and with envelopes to start you off. The theme Decide on your theme before you design your own cards. Is it for a birthday or wedding? Christening or a thank you? This will help you to plan your design. Think about what image you want to place on the cover. If you want to simply use a picture, you can print onto card directly from your computer. You can also reverse the card and print out your message on the inside. Using tissue paper However, if you would like to be more crafty, think of ways to make your greeting card really special. Images can be created by layering tissue paper to form a picture. Tissue paper can also be used to create a stained glass effect by cutting out shapes in the card and using the tissue paper behind them.

Finishing off

Cloth is another material you can use to make your own cards look great. Create pictures using cloth scraps. Use velvet for glamour, cord for texture or silk for a shiny look. Lace is great to use on wedding cards and ribbons make a card for a lady look luxurious. Create your message Create your picture and then add in your greeting message on the front of the card. Calligraphy pens make olde-worlde style lettering. Gold and silver pens add shine and glamour. You can also use cut out foam shapes for lettering or magazine collage letters. Use your imagination to make your message stand out. On the inside Finish off by writing your message inside. For something different, use quotes, a short poem or a funny joke. Add something personal that your card giver will love and you will have created the best of greeting cards.
