How to make your internet connection faster

Having a slow Internet connection speed can be both annoying and frustrating as you are not able to maximise your time and optimise productivity. Fortunately, you do not necessarily have to go to a technician to have your PC checked up in order to improve Internet connection speed. This article will teach you a couple of simple things that you can do to optimise your Internet speed.

Disable add-ons and maintenance

1) Disable the add-ons on the web-browser/s that you are using as these can slow down your Internet connection speed. See if the browser/s you are utilising have multiple web browser add-ons. For instance, if the browser that you are using is Internet Explorer, click on Tools, go to Manage Add-ons and check what the enabled Add-ons are. Disable the ones that you do not need or use. 2) Perform basic PC clean-up and maintenance. Scan your PC for malware, spyware, virus, and adware. Any of these can significantly affect the speed of your Internet connection. If the scan results show any malicious software, have it removed right away. Keep in mind that an unusually slow Internet connection speed is in many cases indicative of a computer that has been infected by malware such as viruses. Run Disk Defragmenter and Disk Clean-up in your system. These programs can be accessed from your PC’s System Tools menu. Empty your recycle bin. 3) Delete temporary and old files in your system. Make sure that the free space on your computer’s C drive does not fall below 10% of its total size. Keep in mind that a well-maintained PC will generally perform better than one that does not get regular maintenance checks.

Manage your cache

Each time you surf on the Web, images and other files get downloaded to your computer's hard disk. These saved files can be accessed whenever you are opening Internet sites, making the downloading process faster. You can find these downloaded files in the Temporary Internet Files folder, which is also known as cache. Once the cache becomes full, Windows deletes the oldest files. Cache size You can manipulate cache size by going to the Control Panel and then, by choosing Internet Options. If you enlarge its size, more files can be saved on the hard disk. However, if you increase it too much, your Internet connection may be adversely affected as your PC would have to spend more time searching the cache. You may have to experiment to find the right cache size that will optimise your Internet connection speed.
