Male International Airport Male International Airport is the main airport in Maldives and serves hundreds of tourists every year. It is connected with almost all international airports around the world and is the only international airport in Maldives. Name Male International Airport was founded in 1966 under the name Hulhule Airport (due to its location on Hulhule Island). Male International Airport’s (IATA code: MLE) current (since 2011) official name is Ibrahim Nasir International Airport, in memory of the late Ibrahim Nasir, who was the second President of the Maldives. Yet, the Maldives airport is more commonly known as Male International Airport. Location Male International Airport is located on Hulhule Island, in the north Male Atoll and is near the island of Male, the capital island of Maldives.

The company’s Board of Director was appointed by the President of the Maldives. GMR Male International Airport Pvt. Ltd In 2010, the Maldives Government decided on the privatisation of the airport and Maldives Airport Company Ltd handed the management of Male International Airport to GMR Male International Airport Pvt. Ltd., widely known with its initials, namely as GMIAL. Yet, Maldives Airport Company Ltd continues to manage all the other Maldives airports.
