Pennsylvania Station in New York City is located in Midtown Manhattan, while the Penn Station underground plaza is situated between 7th and 8th avenue. A great number of public transportation services link with Penn Station, including main line railway services from Amtrak, the Long Island Railroad and the New Jersey transit, subway and bus services.

Main Railways

Amtrak
Amtrak is the main railway operator that uses Penn Station, with 16 different lines serving major cities.
To the north, Amtrak serves Boston, Portland, Toronto and Montreal.
In the west, Amtrak lines call at Pittsburgh, Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago.
Amtrak services going south call at Philadelphia, Baltimore, Washington DC, Cincinnati, Charlotte and Indianapolis. Long Island Railroad
As its name suggests, the Long Island Railroad serves 10 lines that branch throughout Long Island.
The railroad's Main Line calls at Long Island City all the way through the 95-mile route to Greenport on Long Island's eastern tip, while the line branches into five separate lines serving the smaller towns and conurbations. New Jersey Transit
The New Jersey Transit has four lines that each originate from Penn Station, all heading westwards into New Jersey before continuing west or branching north or south.
Using the North Jersey Coast line or Northeast Corridor line, travellers can reach Newark Liberty International Airport, while small New Jersey towns and cities to the west and north can be reached using the other two lines.

Penn Station operates six subway lines run across two different sub-stations (7th and 8th Avenue) by the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA). 7th Avenue Line
The 34th Street - Penn Station 7th Avenue subway runs on red lines 1, 2 and 3, travelling southwards onto the southern tip of Manhattan and across the East River into Brooklyn.
The 1, 2 and 3 lines also extend north through Manhattan towards Yonkers and Mount Vernon. 8th Avenue Line
The 34th Street - Penn Station 8th Avenue subway connects with blue lines A, C and E and travels across the East River southeast into Brooklyn, Queens and beyond John F. Kennedy Airport into Long Beach.
Travelling north, the A and C lines reach University Heights on the west side of Manhattan.
