Where to visit in Port of Oakland
The Port of Oakland, although not an obvious tourist area, plays host to some of the delightful attractions and tourist activities. Travelers flying to Oakland International Airport arrive directly into the port area, often approaching their landing in over the fresh water of the port.

Public art
Oakland International Airport Although, it may seem an unlikely place to visit, Portofoakland.com recommends that visitors of the port visit Oakland International Airport to enjoy art-work, produced by three locally based artists. Hiung Liu's "Going Away, Coming Home" Collection It is a fusion of satellite images taken from weather maps and imperial cranes from historic Chinese artwork. It is lit through a large display window, offering natural light. Alan Rath's "Birds in Flight" Collection Rath's electronic sculptures brings eight feet wide aluminium birds to life. Located at the base of the escalators inside the airport security, Rath's creation uses a computer system to mobilise the sculptures into flapping their wings and gliding to replicate the real life flight of birds. Joyce Hsu's "Hybrid" Collection Hsu collaborated with Alan Rath, to produce a large architectural sculpture of a bird in flight.
Waterfront parks
The Middle Harbour Shoreline Park The Middle Harbour Shoreline Park, located behind the Oakland Naval Supply Centre, is one of the Port of Oakland's largest fresh green spaces. Park visitors can put together a picnic, and enjoy a port side-view to accompany their al fresco dining. You can surely relax and unwind, as you view some of the west coast's finest vessels. Shoreline Park and Alameda Municipal Links Golf Course Travelers looking to play a round of golf can visit the Alameda Municipal Links Golf Course. For the public, the course is open everyday throughout the year, and hosts an 18 hole championship course as well as a nine hole par three course.
Lake Merritt attractions
Children's Fairyland Children's Fairyland is the USA's oldest family theme park. Located aside Lake Merritt, the park features a Ferris wheel, play sets, puppet theatre, small rides and animals. Grand Lake Movie Theatre The Grand Lake Movie Theatre plays all the latest Hollywood hits in regular and three dimensions. The theatre also hosts live opera, and plays with both matinees and evening performances. Oakland City Centre Mall The Oakland City Centre Mall is a five minute walk from Lake Merritt. The mall offers guests a wide range of shops, department stores, fine dining and take-away vendors all under one roof.
