Why study at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside?

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside (UWP) can be found in the woodlands and prairies of Somers, Wisconsin. Founded in 1968, the university is one of thirteen four-year campuses that are a part of the University of Wisconsin.

Overview

History Focus on environmental issues has helped the school forge partnerships with the Root River Environmental Education Community Center (REC) located in Racine, Wisconsin and the Center for Environmental Education, Demonstration and Applied Research (CEDAR) in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. In addition to this, the school is a member of the North Central Association
Students Approximately 5,300 students attend the University of Wisconsin-Parkside. Roughly 5,200 of these students are undergraduates while 100 are graduates. The majority of the students who attend UWP, 92%, are residents of the state of Wisconsin. Twenty-seven percent of the students of UWP are from minority or international backgrounds and the average student age is 23. Around 425 more women than men attend the university.

Academics

Departments & degrees Two divisions, the College of Arts and Science, which has twenty departments, and the School of Business and Technology, which has two departments and three centres, make up UWP. Thirty-eight degrees, five minors and nine pre-health programs make up the undergraduate division. The graduate school consists of five Masters programs. Undergraduate & Masters programs In addition to the traditional undergraduate and Masters programs, UWP offers 24 certificate programs. Students who would like to study for a Bachelors in Sustainable Management or a Masters Degree in Business Administration have the option of attending school online.

Diversity

Equality As the most diverse campus in the University of Wisconsin system, UWP actively creating an environment that fosters diversity and acceptance. The university has an Office of Equity and Diversity (OED) which advises the UWP community on a variety of issues that pertain to diversity and civil rights.
Support In addition to this, the University has created an Office of Multicultural Students Affairs (OMSA). This office focuses on ensuring that underrepresented students come, stay and graduate from the University. Studying race, ethnicity and institutionalised racism has its home in UWP's Center for Ethnic Studies (CES) while the LGBTQ (Lesbian, Gay, Bi-sexual, Transgender, Queer) Resource Center gives support to LGBTQ students and faculty

Athletics

Six women's and seven men's varsity teams can be found on the campus of UWP. For students and community members who are not on athletic teams, the Sports and Activity Center provides a variety of exercise options. Seven Soccer fields, an all-weather track, volleyball courts and golf course are available for student use.
