A great recipe for flavoured coffee
Many people can't start their day without a cup of coffee. A chat over a well-made cappuccino is a great way to catch up with your friends. Would a delicious dinner be complete with a tasty coffee to end the evening? The article below will outline a few ways to make your caffeine hit that little bit more special.
Adding flavour
With a treasure trove of products to choose from, there are many ways that you can make a flavoured coffee. Try flavoured coffee beans, syrups and sprinkles. Just look for an online coffee shop (Gloria Jeans Coffee has a good selection of beans) to see what products are available. If you are feeling adventurous, just look into your pantry cupboard for inspiration. Flavours to think about are spices (think of cinnamon, cardamom or nutmeg), orange (you can use the zest, an essence or a liqueur) and chocolate.
Dressing up a classic
A cappuccino is a simple three-part recipe: A head of espresso, topped with equal measures of steamed milk and foam (add more steamed milk to turn it into a latte if you prefer). Adding flavour Add flavour to your cappuccino by using a gourmet flavoured coffee beans to give a deep flavour to the base of your drink. If you press your own espresso, add spices or orange zest to your grounds before brewing. For a more mellow flavour, make a shot of hot chocolate and add to your cappuccino to make a mocha, sprinkle chocolate powder or shavings on the top to complete your gourmet coffee. For a dash of decadence, replace the foam with a scoop of ice-cream. Of course, you don't need to add the milk or foam if you would prefer a black brew. Stir a shot of orange liqueur through your espresso, for an after dinner treat.
Exotic coffee coolers
In the summer months, an iced coffee is what this caffeine fiend is after. With a few simple twists, you can make a variety of exotic coffee drinks.
Try a Vietnamese coffee by brewing a shot of espresso (or a short strong cup of instant coffee), and mixing it with a quarter-part of condensed milk.
Stir together, and pour over ice cubes, and sip through a straw.
For a tropical twist on coffee:
- Use coconut milk instead of dairy (or add a shot of coconut syrup).
- Top with coconut shavings instead of the usual chocolate or cinnamon.
- Stir two tablespoons of maraschino cherry syrup, and four tablespoons of chocolate syrup into your cup of chilled coffee, top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for a black forest coffee.
No matter how you like your coffee, it is a wonderful drink to experiment with.
