The storyline

Louden Swain (Matthew Modine) is a high school wrestler. He is 18 years old and wants to do something that has meaning in his life, as he feels that his life is empty. He decides to challenge his toughest opponent, the three-time state champion from a rival school. To be able to challenge him, he has to drop a lot of pounds and this is hard. At home, his father rents a room to a girl called Carla (Linda Fiorentino). Despite the age gap, Louden falls for Carla. Due to this first brush of love, Louden does not concentrate on his wresting enough. He becomes unhealthy because of his weight loss and Carla realises that her influence is not good. She decides to move away to give Louden the chance to concentrate on his big match.

The characters

Matthew Modine Matthew Modine plays Louden Swain in "Vision Quest". This was his first, big break. He then went on to play in "Streamers", which brought Modine international fame. After "Streamers", he played with Mel Gibson in "Mrs Soffel" and opposite Nicholas Cage in "Birdy". In 1987, he got the part of Private Joker in Stanley Kubrick's Full Metal Jacket. He followed that with hits like "Married to the Mob", but also appeared in flops like "Cutthroat Island" opposite Geena Davis. In 2010, he worked on the documentary "Too Big To Fail" about the economic crisis. Linda Fiorentino Linda Fiorentino played Carla in "Vision Quest". Just like Matthew Modine, "Vision Quest" was the first big lead for Fiorentina. In 1994, she got worldwide fame after playing the lead in "The Last Seduction". She has not made many movies over the years but, has appeared in "Where the Money Is", "Dogma" and "Liberty Stands Still". Imdb.com
