How to fix a slow running computer
Dealing with a slow computer is probably one of the most frustrating experiences for any computer owner. So, how do you fix your PC and how can you speed up your computer? To find the answers to these questions, just keep on reading.
De-fragment your hard disk
With the passage of time, the data that is contained inside your hard disk becomes distorted or scattered across the clusters. Running the Disk Defragmenter can help you to organise the files in a logical order, and allow you to repair the computer’s speed. Your PC already has a defragmenter. To find it, click Start - Programs - Accessories and then go to "System Tools" and "Disk Defragmenter." Select the hard disk drive that you want to defrag, and click "Defragment." However, this method is rather slow, and can take several hours. A faster and easier computer fix would be to download the “Smart Defrag” application, and let it run automatically in the background. This is a free PC fix that can be downloaded at CNET.
Get rid of malware
Spyware and other types of malware can slow down your computer considerably. Use anti-spyware software to clean your computer and to restore PC speed. You can also run a virus scan to find out if a virus is responsible for your slow running computer. This may be the case, especially if you use your PC often for Internet surfing.
Add some RAM
RAM, which stands for Random Access Memory, is used by your system to store data, when you run multiple applications. If the RAM is not enough, then your computer will have a sluggish performance. Adding 1GB or 2GB of RAM can help you to speed up your PC.
Free up some space
Try to delete unnecessary files, and remove unused programs in order to get more disk space. Many of the programs in your hard drive are completely useless. To remove these programs, go to Control Panel - "Add or Remove Programs" and pick the ones that you no longer need. Additionally, there are more things that you can do to free up space. You can empty the Recycle Bin so as to get rid of all the data that occupies space in the hard drive. You can remove the temporary Internet files and even clean your desktop so as to free up even more space.
