How to make salad greens more interesting
Green salad alone, while healthy, can be very dull. Adding extra ingredients to green salads can transform them from bland to brilliant. Even simply adding salad dressing to fresh lettuce and leafy greens can make your dish instantly more attractive. There is a great diversity to the changes and additions you can make to salads to make them simply irresistible and still retain the health benefits of consuming salads, which are rich in vitamins C and E, folic acid and beta carotene.

Vegetarian
Salads are a staple food in a vegetarian diet, and, although they are commonly served as a starter or side dish, salads can also be served as a main course too. Keep your salads vegetarian to emphasise the health benefits of eating fresh green leaves every day.
Nuts
Add nuts to your salad to help give them a sharp and salty edge. Walnuts, for example, are big on flavour while also often being described as the healthiest type of nut. This is due to the high level of antioxidants, dietary fibre, vitamins and minerals. Furthermore, walnuts contain a good amount of healthy protein, which makes them ideal for vegetarian consumption.
Dressings
Search for the "V" vegetarian symbol on salad dressings and be wary of their relatively high level calorific content. Calorie conscious salad eaters will want to use dressings sparingly, but they are a superb way to add flavour to your leafy green vegetables and salads. Either spread dressings over the top of a salad before tossing or fill a few ramekins with dressings so you can dip your salads into them.
Cheese
Bulking a salad up to a full-scale meal without using meat can be a challenge. Shave your favourite type of cheese over the top of your salad, however, to add large amounts of calcium, vitamin B and proteins.
Adding meat
You can use vegetarian techniques to make any salad more interesting, but the main advantage of being a meat eater is the fact you can transform a salad with the addition of meat.
Chicken Caesar
For a classic salad recipe, add some lightly grilled chicken breast cut into thin slices into your salad and serve with a generous serving of Caesar salad dressing.
