Diana Ross and the Supremes The singing group, the Supremes was the most popular of all Motown acts in the 1960s. After changing the line up, Mary Wilson, Diana Ross and Florence Ballard went on as a trio. They achieved success in the mid 60s with Diana Ross as their lead singer and renamed the group Diana Ross and the Supremes. Hits for the Supremes The first big hit for the Supremes was Where Did Our Love Go. It reached number one in the charts. This was followed up by four consecutive US number-one hits which were Baby Love, Come See About Me, Stop! In the Name of Love and Back in My Arms Again. The Supremes were not only popular in the US, but all over the world. They were one of the first musical acts who were African American to achieve cross-over success. In the 70s, Ross went solo and the Supremes replaced her and did not disband till 1977. The Temptations The Temptations are said to have been as influential as the Beatles were to rock, in the pop music. They sold ten million albums and were known for their choreography, on stage presentation and harmonies. The Temptation had some classic songs which are still well loved today like My Girl, Ain't Too Proud To Beg and Papa Was a Rolling Stone.

Motown

Contract to Motown Diana Ross and the Supremes and The Temptations were both under contract to Motown. This record label was founded by Berry Gordy in Detroit. The label played a huge part in the cross-over between black and white music and in bringing down racial barriers. Some of the other top artists of the label were The Jackson Five, Gladys Knight and the Pips, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and The Four Tops.

Review of the song Im gonna make you love me (often mistaken today for the Dreamworks song You Gonna Love Me) was originally a hit song for Dee Dee Warwick in 1966. It became the lead single on the album Diana Ross & the Supremes Join The Temptations. It reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was number one for three weeks on the Record World 100 Top Pops.
