What is data?

Data in a general sense is information. They are qualitative or quantitative attributes of a variable or set of variables. Typically, data is a series of measurements which can be shown as images, on graphs or observations of a set of variables. As a term, it is nowadays more associated in the popular consciousness with computer science.

What is data?

Definition of data Data, in a computing sense, is generally defined as information which is distinguishable from programs. These are instructions which detail tasks for the computer to perform. To define data purely in computing terms, however, would be misleading. 'What is data?' might well be a question in the mind of someone looking to apply for a data entry or data input job. Careers related to data Data entry jobs in general involve the typing of information into a database onto a computer. A data entry company can obtain this information for its data entry operators. They are also called clerks or sometimes typists, to input from mailshot questionnaires or handwritten surveys. This information would generally be analysed for marketing purposes, helping a company to shape its future strategy.

What is data management?

Description Data management generally revolves around the protection of data and information an the treatment of such a valuable resource. This can be managed in a variety of ways, whether digitally, architecturally or otherwise. Occupations of data management Data management can also encompass a range of occupations. These can be related to those engaged in data logging simple customer information such as telephone numbers and email addresses. Moreover, they can also encompass the overseeing of databases of metadata, or information about information. Hence, this is where the data logging equipment is usually digital and highly complex. Storing of data Data can still also be stored and managed in more traditional manners of course, with some data still stored on paper documents.
This obviously has security implications for both the storage and eventual destruction of sensitive records. Replacement of the term data with other terms Recently, there has been a trend in data management circles to move towards a usage of the term 'information' or even 'knowledge', rather then data, Hence, the definitions of such terms shift with a greater understanding of subjective perspectives on the issue. Drawbacks of such terms However, some would say that such terms merely serve to make the issue even more opaque. Because, in the end what is usually being interpreted, managed or stored is still, in a sense, data.
