This Boston theatre was one of three commissioned by Eber Dyer Jordan – son of wealthy retail Boston businessman Jordan Marsh - to primarily showcase mainstream theatre. Around 20 years after its 1903 opening, the theatre started to accommodate vaudeville shows – variety shows including acrobatics, comedians, sketches, fire-breathers, animal acts, escapologists and such like. Recent History In the 1950’s, the theatre converted to a movie house.
In the mid 1980’s, Emerson College purchased the theatre and restored its original architecture and purpose, now playing host to works from Emerson College, Opera Boston, New England Conservatory and the Celebrity Series of Boston.
