Where to buy a baking pan
Baking dishes are essential pieces of kitchen equipment. You need them to make so many different dishes from casseroles, to stews, to lasagnes to pies and puddings. This article will guide you through the types of baking pans on the market and give you ideas on where to find the pots and pans that you need.
Bake-ware
Bake-ware is the general name given to baking pans. Baking dishes are used to make cakes, pies, flans, tarts, pizzas and bread. The basic that you should buy is a set of cake pans, preferably with a removable bottom. A pie pan is also handy for making tarts as well as pies. Loaf pans are handy not only for making your own bread, but also for meat loafs and cakes too. You can pick up loaf tins, cake tins and pie pans:
- In charity shops,
- At boot sales,
- Online,
- In supermarkets and
- In department stores.
Old bake-ware from charity shops is often of better quality than that found in supermarkets. Department store prices tend to be much higher.
Cookware
Cookware is the name we give to cooking pots. We have metal cooking pots such as roasting pans and oven trays which you can pick up from pound stores, supermarkets and department stores. You get what you pay for, but a cheap oven pan can last quite a while if you always cover it in oven foil.
Casseroles and stews are cooked in glass or ceramic pans. Glass-ware enables you to see what you are cooking whereas ceramic dishes look prettier on the table. You can find these dishes in:
- In charity shops,
- At car-boot sales,
- Online,
- In supermarkets and
- In department stores.
Try to buy different sizes of cookware so that you can cook a variety of meals. When you buy from a charity shop, do not worry if the lid is missing as you can simply use foil.
Cooking pans
This is an area where it pays to get the best pans that you can afford. Cheap pans may do the job, but they do not last long at all. Copper pans look lovely but are a pain to clean and cannot be used to cook all types of food in. Try to buy pans with the heaviest bottom you can find as these distribute the heat more evenly and last longer too. To buy pans visit department stores, supermarkets, search online or in specialist cookery stores.
