Churches in the UK are closing down at a rate of as many as three per week. With them goes all of their amazing furnishings including pews, alters and stacking chairs from the church hall.

Shop locally

When looking for old church furniture in the UK such as church pews, look out for signs of a church closing down near to you. Many churches, when they close hold an open day or sale day when it is possible to go in and have a look around at what is on offer. Some churches will already have a price on each piece for their furnishings while others will expect you to make an offer on each item that you would like to buy. In other cases, the church will have already contacted a local dealer who will take the entire lot of interior furnishings from their hands. In this case, you may be able to find out from the church which dealer bought the furnishings and then go through them to buy your own church pews and alters for your home. Moreover, look out for advertisements in local newspapers. Either the church themselves or a local dealer is likely to print an advertisement advising that that they have the entire contents of a church's furnishings for sale. Often, both dealers and churches are looking for a quick sale. So, you need to get in their quick to find cheap church pews and cheap church furniture.

National sales

There are a number of national church furniture dealers in the UK who know that a church will close before the general public do. In these cases, they will have already made a deal to take all of the church pews and church furniture away before there is any chance of the church holding their own sale. National church furniture dealers will usually have their own website listing the items they have for sale and the price that they accept for them. In most cases, the dealer will offer national delivery and will usually sell individual items. Very rarely, items like church pews go to auction but waiting for an item to go to auction may mean paying a much higher price than buying directly from the church or from a UK church furniture dealer.
