Once you have installed it, you will be presented with a "Subscriptions" screen. You must select "EasyList USA" to block almost every ad. Not installing a subscription will force the blocker to not block anything at all.

The other type of antispyware that is essential to any home user is a software that blocks spyware after it enters your computer. Spyware can come in many forms, including from someone who tricks you into running a program, and then steals your information once you run it. Another way in which it can come is bundled into a freeware program. Sometimes, even anti-viruses cannot pick these up, as hackers can encrypt the spyware source and then compile it, thus removing any sort of identifiable signature. It is therefore smart to use your existing anti-virus (such as Stopzilla) with the Ad Blocker listed above as well as a malware behaviour blocker. One such blocker is "Emsisoft Mamutu". This is a program that recognises certain malware behaviours (like making a hidden internet connection to a foreign server). You can then choose whether it is a legitimate program or you want to block it.
